CERN, as leader of the HNSciCloud initiative, has been shortlisted for the 2019 Procura+ Award as "Innovation Procurement of the Year", in the sub-category "Outstanding Innovation Procurement in ICT", recognising the outstanding application of Procurement of Innovation and Pre-commercial procurement of ICT.
The Swiss public research institutions CERN, together with nine European public research instutions, had the goal to procure cutting-edge cloud based data storage and computing services for research and science purposes. In a joint pre-commercial procurement, the organisations purchased the Helix Nebula Science Cloud (HNSciCloud) hybrid cloud platform, which links commercial cloud service providers and publicly funded research organisations’ in-house IT resources to provide innovative solutions supporting data intensive science.
The Procura+ Awards reward successful, already running, sustainable and innovative public procurements. These procurements lead to significant improvements of public goods, services, processes and infrastructure. With this Award the Procura+ Network wants to showcase sustainable and innovation procurement in practice.
Award Ceremony
The Procura+ Award Ceremony will take place at the Nordic Edge Expo on September 24. The Expo takes place from September 24 - 26 in Stavanger, Norway.
